Sonor perfect balance vs dw 900011/19/2023 ![]() I used to sell them - don't get me wrong, they are not perfect by any means, and they certainly don't offer instant gratification for anyone coming from heavier, looser Pearl/Tama/DW's - but it was amazing the amount of buyers we'd see selling them again within a couple of weeks or months, especially younger guys, they bought the pedal because they wanted everything it offered, but then just didn't take the time to let it offer it. But 'getting' an Axis to work for you is just a matter of time. Axis pedals work just like that.ĭon't sweat it if you can't get it, you won't be the first. Think of it more like a drumstick, the arm and wrist put the power into the stroke and the fingers control the hit and recycle the rebound. With Axis you need to put the power in at the start of the stroke and the direct drive transfers it - it's counterintuitive if you're used to a large cam chain drive pedal where you _have_to play the beater into the head at the end of the stroke. It's mostly to do with technique readjustment. So my question is, who would ever use one of these Axis pedals? I can only imagine drummers that exclusively rely on triggers would ever use one of these pedals, because I'm getting 0 volume from them.Īm I missing something here, because I just don't get it. And with minimal force on my Iron Cobra I was able to get a huge sound. Pedal Perfect balance pedal, Separate hoop clamp, Not hinged, Matte polished base plate, Ball bearing hinge on the base plate, Nylon bag. The beater actually sounds great on my iron cobra. I took the trapezoidal beater that came with the pedal and put it on my iron cobra to see if it was the beater that was lowering my volume and no, it wasn't. And my 22" kick has single ply heads and no muffling, so I can't believe how low the volume is. ![]() I could get used to the lighter feel, but not being able to hear the kick drum at all when playing with a full band was surprising to say the least. I tried everything I could think of to get more volume out of the pedal, spring tension, beater angle, different beater, etc. I knew the pedal would be lighter feeling, but my bass drum with this pedal is inaudible. I liked having the longboard on my speed cobra double pedal I had awhile back, so I thought I would try out another longboard.īut when I put the pedal on my bass drum, I noticed I wasn't getting any power whatsoever. It doesn't make any sense to me.Just to try something different I bought an Axis longboard X single bass drum pedal. I see it put to the test everyday at Disneyland (we have a deal with Yamaha and they provide us everything: drums, pianos, audio gear.) their stuff just works.īut I'm interested to know if there's some cosmic reason you want to outfit a kit that won't be going anywhere with really heavy stuff. Yamaha's stuff is awesome and underrated, as well. Some folks have had problems with Tama hardware lately, so maybe that leaves the Pearl stuff in the running, but I personally haven't. ![]() If you're still insisting you need this stuff, I think Pearl's 900 series or Tama's Roadpro series are better designed. If you're not moving it, I would assume you don't need it. It gets damaged when you move it from place to place. Hardware never gets damaged when it's set up and you're playing it. The simple reason DW hardware is that heavy and tough is because it's going to go on the road and be abused. Which leads me to the next question: if you're not moving it around, what do you want the heaviest hardware in the world for? ![]() When you have a crew of two people who move your stuff around and set it up and strike it for you, then you get the 5000 or 9000 stuff. I know you said it wouldn't be moving anywhere, and even if I wasn't moving it anywhere, I'd avoid it at all costs. After having owned DW 50 stuff - DW's heavy offerings are just stupidly over-engineered.
